Here is how Hospice St. Joseph is using earthquake relief donations to serve the Christ Roi neighborhood.
In the beginning of April Hospice St. Joseph invited all of the sponsored children still in the neighborhood (about 100 children) to come to the yard for the "Fresh Air Academy" as the education director, Erold, likes to call it. According to the plan, there are 2 four hour sessions each day with the grades rotating and meeting at least for 3 sessions a week. From noon to 1PM all of the children there have a nutritious lunch. Several teachers from a nearby school which collapsed have been hired to work with the children, along with Erold, some of the older students including university students, and some volunteers.
Every day after class they have a short session to speak and share their own stories about the earthquake. They get advice and speak with a psychologist. This part of the program was developed with the help of Dr. Ray Carre, a psychiatrist and board member.

As part of our whole child approach, scholarship program students receive medical examinations, vaccinations and dental care. Before the earthquake, Hospice offered enrichment programs to expose the students to art, music, dance and theater, especially during our summer camp. We hope to offer this again when circumstances allow. Individual sponsors are always needed for students in the program. The investment in the future of an elementary student is $325 USD or $475 USD for a high school student, which may be paid monthly or quarterly.
